The Varsity Girls played their last home quad game against Hillsdale. The Bearcats kept pace with the Knights in the 1st quarter, thanks to two 3-pointers by Senior Marie Rossi, and were down by only 2 points at the end of the quarter. Hillsdale’s defense ramped up in the 2nd quarter and held San Mateo scoreless, while its offense went on to score 12 points to lead 20-6 at the half. The Bearcats came back strong in the 3rd quarter and outscored the Knights 6-2 in the first few minutes. Rossi scored another 5 points, while 3 other Bearcats scored at the line.

San Mateo had its best quarter defensively in the 4th, keeping Hillsdale to just 7 points. Sophomore Nesi Hafoka and Freshman Zoe Pang scored all 7 points for the Bearcats in the quarter, but it wasn’t enough to catch Hillsdale.

Leading the offense for the Bearcats for the second consecutive game was Rossi with 12 points, followed by Hafoka with 4. Hafoka led the team with 8 rebounds, followed by Seniors Katie Osaki and Lauren Young with 6 each. Sophomore Trinity O’Mahoney contributed with 5 boards of her own.

The Varsity Girls play their last quad game of the season at Burlingame on Friday, February 9th. Go Bearcats!
