Crystal Springs Upland School (CSUS) recorded two quick victories at #1 Singles 1-6, 1-6 and #1 doubles 0-6, 1-6. Aakash Parthasarathy and Brandon Yermash at #3 doubles answered with the first San Mateo (SM) victory 6-1, 6-2. At this time, the matches were already an hour long when Brian Zhong at #4 singles came off the court with SM’s second victory 6-3, 6-2. Jonathan Chan took 90 mins to break the 2-2 tie with his victory at #2 singles, 6-4, 6-4. With the match 3-2 in SM’s favor, Caleb Chan at #2 singles won the second set forcing a third set and Kevin Zhang/Andre Khmelnitsky at #2 doubles losing the second set 1-6, setting up a third set showdown. Caleb Chan and Kevin/Andre each lost the first game of the third setting up a suspenseful, mental toughness, third set. Caleb won two games in a row going up 2-1. Kevin/Andre tied their match at 3-3 with some exciting points at the net. Caleb maintained his lead throughout the third set with some clutch shots eventually clinching the victory for San Mateo with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 score. Despite the loss, Kevin/Andre looks to have turned the corner by playing their best doubles of the season against their best opponents thus far, 6-3, 1-6, 4-6.
