Game Recap

Facing one of the top teams in the league on an unseasonably hot day, the Bearcats managed to slow down the Capuchino attack through three quarters of play. Unfortunately Capuchino, motivated by playing on their senior day, caught fire in the fourth quarter by putting up all of the final quarter scoring. With the defeat the Bearcats drop to 0-11 in conference play.

San Mateo will turn around quickly and get one more crack at a conference opponent, travelling to Aragon to face their cross town rivals on Tuesday evening to close out the season. Offensively the Bearcats were led by Jacob Wetherbee’s nine goal performance. An additional offensive tally was logged by Eric Oliveira.

Game Recap

Playing on an unseasonably warm day and down a few swimmers due to illness, the Bearcats came out and played one of their best defensive halves of the season to open the game. Minimizing the Capuchino offensive opportunities and slowing down the tempo of the game kept the Bearcats in it at the half as they only trailed 4 – 2. Unfortunately for San Mateo the Capuchino offense would get rolling in the second half as they would ultimately down the Bearcats 14 – 4. The Bearcats will get one more crack at it on Tuesday afternoon against Aragon in the season finale.

Offensively the Bearcats were led by Eric Pan as he put up three goals in a hat trick performance. Jack Howe also contributed a goal to the San Mateo offensive tally.

Meet Recap

Prior to today’s match-up, the Bearcats honored their graduating seniors: Tessa Chou, Aida Lowe, Emily McHugh and Lauren Young. What made it doubly sweet for the seniors was that John Daquioag, who was their beloved Asst. Coach last year, was present as
Head Coach of Mills.

After the Senior Day festivities were over, the Varsity Girls went to work, trouncing Mills 6-1. Senior and Co-Captain Tessa Chou was the first to get a Bearcat win, shutting out her Viking opponent 6-0, 6-0, and getting her 10th win of the season. Sophomore Hannah
Battat, who has been successful as a fill-in Singles player this season, lost only one game as Singles #4, while Freshman Sarah Fung-Smith made quick work of her opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles #1, Seniors and Co-Captains Aida Lowe & Lauren Young remained undefeated, getting their 12th win of the season 6-1, 6-2. Junior Lian Ting got her first doubles assignment this season, pairing with Sophomore Jeevika Adda on the Doubles #2 court. Ting and Adda won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles #3, Senior Emily McHugh and Junior Mahak Bindal, had the longest match of the day. The first set was a see-saw battle; McHugh and Bindal were down 3-4 in the first set, but won the next 2 games to go up 5-4. The Vikings didn’t give up, however, and forced a tie-breaker, which the Bearcats won in a tough battle. The Vikings came back and took the second set, forcing a super tie-breaker. McHugh and Bindal dug deep and won that 10-6, completing the sweep on the doubles courts, and securing the 6th win of the day for San Mateo.

The Bearcats finish off their regular season against the Panthers at Burlingame tomorrow. Go Mateo!

Game Recap

Great win by the JV squad last night, as they increase their winning streak to 4 games, making them 3-0 in Division games. Last night’s victory was their toughest win of the season. Even though the Bearcats jumped out to 14 point lead in the 1st quarter, the Colts never gave up and eventually took the lead in the 4th quarter, but the Bearcats responded with a critical 4th quarter drive which resulted in the game winning TD. Scoring by the Bearcats was led by Lucas Castillo and Luke Bergstrom, the L&L combination has been tough to stop this season. The Bearcats continue Division play next week against Mills and hope to continue their winning streak. Go Bearcats!
