Boys Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · 2020 Swim Team ~ Senior Spotlight

Bearcat Swimmers &  Families,

Since this 2020 season didn’t go as planned (thanks to Covid-19) and we couldn’t properly recognize our graduating Seniors as we always do…we had to do something different.  Each and every one of the following swimmers has added so much to the program during their time at San Mateo High School.  These swimmers will be missed in the pool, on deck, and on campus.  We wish you seniors well as you venture onto college in this new “normal”.  Cheers to health, happiness, and reaching for the stars.  Go Bearcats!

Your coaches,

Mr. Hanson, Ms. Malone and Ms. Parodi

  Kalyn Chang

College: I’m going to swim at Biola University next year and my intended major is kinesiology.

Years on Swim Team: 4, varsity

Favorite Event: 100 Back, 200 Free, 200 IM

Favorite Memory: my favorite memory is eating sandwiches at CCS, the 400 Fly at practice was pretty fun, making new friends and hanging out in the locker room, racing my childhood swim friends and I love dives.

 Kyle Chang

College: University of the Pacific, Music Therapy Major

Years on the Swim Team: 4

Favorite event: 100 Breastroke & 100 Free

Favorite Memory: Being able to swim in PALs last year with everyone else

 Alec Li

College:  I’m going to UC Berkeley for CS (one of my top choices for sure, so I’m really excited for next year)

Years on the Swim Team: 4

Favorite event: 100 Breastroke

Favorite Memory:  Winning 1st in the consolation heat (so 9th overall) in the 100 breast my sophomore year at PAL finals. After sophomore year, school started to ramp up and I spent more time focusing on schoolwork, but that memory will always stick with me, and it pushes me to keep improving and training, to surpass my past self in that race.

 Elsa Servantez

College: I’ll be going to UCLA next year, with a major in Linguistics and Computer Science!

Years on the Swim Team: 4

Favorite event: 200IM, It’s long enough where I can breathe a good deal without feeling bad about it, but the whole medley part of it keeps it from feeling… TOO long!

Favorite Memory: the bus rides, and hanging out with my teammates at CCS!

 Oliver Spittle

College: I’m going to SJSU for Mechanical Engineering

Years on Swim Team: 4 years on the team

Favorite event: 200 IM or 100 BK

Favorite memory:  “saving” Aiden with Kalyn

 Garrett Wong

College: I’ll be majoring in nursing at Case Western Reserve University.

Years on Swim Team: 2 years on the team

Favorite event: 50 Free

Favorite memory: Cheering on my teammates at PALs
