Meet Recap

The Varsity Girls, having won all four pre-season matches, had their first regular season match against Carlmont. In three meetings in 2016, the Bearcats beat the Scots easily 5-2, 6-1 and 5-2, so even before the girls stepped onto the courts, anticipation was high as to what the results would be this year. The Bearcats fought hard on all courts, even though it may not have been reflected in the scores.

Seniors and Co-Captains Aida Lowe and Lauren Young got the 1st win for San Mateo, winning easily in straight sets. Doubles #3, Sophomores Jeevika Adda and Nicole Hong won a tie-breaker in the 1st set and finished strong with a 6-3 win in the 2nd set. Doubles #2, Senior Emily McHugh and Junior Mahak Bindal were up 5-4 in the 1st set, when the Scots came back to tie it up 5-5 and then take the set 5-7. McHugh and Bindal came back to take the 2nd set 6-4, and with the match still undecided, had to play a full 3rd set. Despite a valiant effort by San Mateo, Carlmont came back strong in the 3rd set to prevent a sweep on the Doubles courts.

Senior and Co-Captain Tessa Chou, playing Singles #3, was the last match to finish. Chou bageled her opponent in the 1st set, narrowly lost the 2nd set in a tie-breaker and then held on to win in the super tie-breaker 10-5.

The Varsity Girls hope to get back to their winning ways when they meet the Cougars in Half Moon Bay tomorrow. Go Bearcats!
