San Mateo High School
Another tough loss for the JV squad. Even though they seemed to dominate both sides of the ball, they could never capitalize on their long drives. Two times in the first half the Bearcats methodically moved the ball down the field, only to come up short both times. The first drive resulted in an interception in the end zone, the second drive ended on a goal line stand by the Eagles on the 3 yard line. With the Bearcats driving at the end of the 2Q and all the momentum of the game, it unfortunately swung over to the Eagles on a pick 6 that ended the first half and gave the Eagles a 6-0 lead.
The Bearcats came roaring out of half time break fired up, taking control of 3Q and scoring on their second drive of the quarter with a 5 yard TD run by Omar Maithaluni. Unfortunately the Eagles came back in 4Q with a 5 minute drive which resulted in another TD. The TD drive was helped by two questionable calls by the referees, which allowed the drive to continue, instead of stalling on the Bearcats 25 yard line. With plenty of time remaining the Bearcats got two more attempts to score, unfortunately they turned the ball over on both drives, which ending their valiant effort to come back in the game. Even though they statistically dominated the game, they could not overcome the 5 turnovers.
Next week the Bearcats travel to Kezar Stadium to play the Mission Bears to get back on the winning track. Go Bearcats!
