Coed Junior Varsity Track, Coed Varsity Track · Bearcat Invitational & Jenne’s Triple Double

Saturday’s Bearcat Invitational was a huge success, not only for the number of schools and athletes in attendance, but also for the SMHS Track and Field squads. Nearly 50 teams participated with well over 1,000 competitors taking part on a gorgeous spring day at SMHS. The Bearcat star of the day without question was Sophomore Mallorie Jenne, a distance runner who added a victory in the 800m to her growing resume.  If there is such a thing in track, Mallorie recorded a triple double by taking 1st place in 3 races while also recording personal bests in each event. She started her day winning the Frosh-Soph 1600, then added gold in the 800, and ended with a dominating win in the 3200 beating her closest Frosh-Soph competitor by over a minute. She actually placed second among all women runners in the nearly 2 mile race when the Varsity 3200 heat was combined with the Frosh-Soph race.

On the varsity side, junior Jake Jeffries  turned in an impressive performance by taking home bronze medals in the 100 and 300 hurdles while also setting PRs in both events. Nick Poellinger had a great day in the throws, recording 4th in the discus and 5th in the shot put for two medals. Senior Jake Droz added a silver medal for the Varsity men with a PR in the Pole Vault.

Additional Frosh-Soph stellar performances were turned in by several team members starting with Noa Mandorf as a double medal winner, winning gold with a PR in the Frosh-Soph 400 and placing 6th in the 200. Jocelyn Cristin-Barron threw for a bronze medal in the Frosh-Soph discus. Evelyn Contreras landed 6th in the Frosh-Soph Long Jump and she took 8th in the 200m setting PRs in both events.  Other Bearcat top 10 finishes were as follows:
